Headquartered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, McCreath is a family-owned company tracing its roots back to the late 1800's. Officially known as Andrew S. McCreath & Son, Inc., McCreath was founded by Andrew McCreath in 1877.
After emigrating to America in 1870, Andrew took charge of the laboratory at the Pennsylvania Steel Works. He was the first Chemist employed by a Steel Mill in the United States. At the time, the recently patented Bessemer Process, relied on material containing low levels of Phosphorus, making a Chemist invaluable.
In 1874, Andrew was appointed as Chemist to the Second Geological Survey of Pennsylvania and left the Pennsylvania Steel Works. The Second Survey Reports were described in 1924 as "the most remarkable series of reports ever issued by any survey". In 1877, he founded McCreath Laboratories.
Today, while continuing its 140+ year tradition of supporting both the Steel and Foundry Industries, McCreath also services the Minerals, Coal and Petroleum Coke Industries. Our Chemists leverage both classical analytical techniques and state of the art instrumentation, so customers can expect swift, accurate results, every time.
In addition to a robust Laboratory, McCreath employs dedicated field operations teams across the Eastern United States. Our field staff is equipped with the tools and expertise to handle all of your barge survey, sampling and inspection needs; typically within 24 hours.
Irrespective of your position in the materials' supply chain, McCreath has you covered.
