What Is Silicomanganese?
During steel production, many manufacturers make use of alloying elements. One such example of an alloy used is silicomanganese (SiMn) which improves the mechanical properties of steel. This alloy contains manganese, silicon and carbon. Silicomanganese is formed by smelting slag from ferromanganese that has high levels of carbon or manganese ore with coke and quartz flux.
Silicomanganese can significantly alter the properties of steel depending on how much manufacturers use during production. Having deoxidated silicomanganese will result in cleaner steel production. Since this alloy is an essential aspect of steel production, it’s important to perform verification testing on your silicomanganese samples to ensure they adhere to industry standards.
